About Me

Hello, and welcome. I’m John Collins, an artist inspired by the intersection of personal experience,  emotion, and the unexpected beauty found in places often overlooked.

My work is a reflection of my own journey through adoption, the challenge of stammering, and a deep curiosity about how beauty can be discovered in unconventional spaces. I believe that art has the power to transform – to reveal the extraordinary within the ordinary, the profound within the painful, and the unseen within the familiar.

Adoption has shaped much of my identity, providing me with a unique lens through which I perceive the world. It is a theme that weaves through my art as I explore the complexities of belonging, identity, and the search for home. Each piece I create speaks to the nuances of adoption: the tension between finding and losing, the blending of different worlds, and the quiet moments of understanding that exist between the lines of family.

My stammer is another thread in the fabric of my art. It’s a personal struggle, one that speaks to the gaps between intention and expression, the discomfort of not being fully understood, and the resilience needed to keep finding my voice. In this, I find a deep connection to my creative process, which is often messy, imperfect, and full of pauses. These pauses, however, are not voids; they are spaces where the mind and the heart can wander and discover something new.

In my work, I challenge the conventional definition of beauty. I am drawn to places, moments, and subjects that might typically be overlooked—abandoned buildings, overlooked landscapes, forgotten objects—and through my eyes, I strive to reveal their inherent grace. I believe beauty is not just in the polished, the pristine, or the picture-perfect. It is in the cracks, the imperfections, the transitions, and the forgotten corners of life.

As an artist, my goal is to encourage others to see the world through a different lens—one where beauty exists in the unspoken, in the spaces between words and moments. I invite you to explore these themes with me, to pause, to look closer, and to find beauty where it’s least expected.

Thank you for taking the time to experience my work. I hope it resonates with you in ways both personal and profound.
